Brea & Brendan :: Married :: The Barn at Wight Farm, Sturbridge, MA
Wedding Date: May 15th, 2021
How long have you two been together?
We met while working at an ice cream and seafood restaurant in 2015 and started dating in August of that year. We separated for a year in college but found our way back to each other in 2018.
If you could pick one word that describes your wedding day, what would it be?
Brea: Beautiful
Brendan: Legendary
Describe your wedding day style:
Romantic and fun day with all of our loved ones dancing all night! I think we achieved this :)
Describe your wedding theme:
Burgundy and blush with hints of navy
What did your ceremony entail?
Our ceremony took place in the Alpheus Wight room at the barn and it was such a romantic space. One of my favorite parts of the ceremony was right before I walked down the aisle with my Dad. I had ordered an aisle runner with a note to him on it and he had no idea! I remember getting to the start of the aisle and whispering "look down!" to my Dad as his eyes welled up with tears. Friends and family told me after the ceremony there wasn't a dry eye in the house at that point!
What were you most anxious, nervous, or concerned about regarding your wedding, and what was the outcome?
I was so nervous for rain because I wanted outdoor portraits with the spring flowers and greenery. We had a beautiful 75-degree day in May! Though you can't control the weather, it’s still super hard not to stress about it. It will all work out and I really tried to not worry about it as the day got closer!
What was your biggest wedding planning challenge, and how did you overcome it?
Covid! Planning during a pandemic was the hardest part by far. Having to cut our guest list in half and tell loved ones they could no longer celebrate with us was tough. Having to also push back our date and rethink our perfect day was devastating at first, but we quickly sprung into action to secure a backup date. Looking back now, we wouldn't change a thing! At the time, though, we were so sad we couldn't have our fall wedding.
What was the most memorable part of your wedding planning?
We loved our food and cake tastings! We drove to our cake tasting in February in the middle of quite the snowstorm and though we probably should have rescheduled, we wanted to try that cake and it did not disappoint
What advice would you like to impart to other couples planning their weddings?
The day really does go by so fast. I remember feeling rushed at first trying to take portraits (the venue was trying to get us going quickly) and then wanting more photos with Brendan afterward and we went outside with Kara while our guests were served the salad course of dinner. By far one of the best things we did! Take the time to talk with your guests and enjoy being the center of attention, even if it's a little awkward! And if you take your meal to go, there is more time to dance and be with everyone! We found we weren't even hungry with everything going on and being so excited.
Brea: I have a few, but one of my favorites was dancing to "Timber" with all of my best friends. At my bachelorette party, my sister and I taught everyone a choreographed dance to the song and we told everyone that we were doing it at the wedding! A lot of other guests joined in and we killed it.
Brendan: Marrying my honey and dancing to the wrong version of our first dance and laughing about it.
What was your reception like?
Our goal was to have a party, especially after such a tough year with the pandemic. We could finally have a dance floor and a more traditional reception like we wanted to. We loved the food at our tasting, but I don't think I even ate half of it that day! All I wanted to do was take more portraits with Kara outside and talk to our guests. Our DJ was great and knew how to get our crowd going. I remember dancing to Bowling for Soup's "1985 " (a family favorite song) with all of my siblings circled up and it was by far one of my favorite moments. The photos of all of us together bring me right back to that song and moment when I just remember feeling so happy to have everyone together singing and dancing.
What is the best part (so far) about being married?
Brea: I love our commitment to each other. Being married and calling him my husband has been a lot of fun. We knew we were committed to each other before we were officially married, but I love how we are working through all of life's challenges together (pandemic and other personal ones).
Brendan: Making memories together
Testimonial
We absolutely loved having Kara capture our day. She met with us several times before the big day to make sure we were on the same page and she took the time to get to know us and what we wanted from our photographer. She was so sweet the day of and really made us feel comfortable. She captured all of the small details that I wanted and definitely delivered on dancing photos as requested! Her work is beautiful and we love having it hung up all over our house. When it comes to your wedding photographer, do not go with just anyone! We recommend Kara to everyone and know that she will capture all of the moments you will cherish forever.
