Heather & Paul :: Married :: Rosebrook Event Center, Wareham, MA
Wedding Date: October 13, 2019
How long have you two been together?
6 and a half years
If you could pick one word that describes your wedding day, what would it be?
Heather: Euphoric
Paul: Perfect
What did your ceremony entail?
Our ceremony was performed by a long time family friend of Paul and his parents who is also a minister, and he made the ceremony extremely thoughtful and personal. My grandparents, who have been married over 60 years, performed an emotional reading we chose called, An excerpt from "The Art of Marriage" by Wilfred Arlan Peterson. My bridal party walked down the aisle to 'I Will Follow You Into the Dark' by Death Cab for Cutie, and I walked down to an acoustic cover of '2's my favorite 1' by Coheed and Cambria, songs by artists Paul and I enjoy. Our recessional song was taken from "the Throne Room and Finale" from Star Wars. Paul is a fan of music scores and John Williams, and we're both fans of Star Wars so it combined a few of our interests and I'm sure was a surprise to our guests. We chose simple secular vows and were surrounded by our closest 100 family members and friends, outside with the most beautiful fall scenery and perfect weather!
What was your biggest wedding planning challenge, and how did you overcome it?
Identifying a budget and financial planning. Talking about our concerns with each other, validating them, and working together to organize a plan to manage finances associated with the wedding throughout the planning process.
What was the most memorable part of your wedding planning?
The most fun was going on day trips exploring different areas and trying new restaurants, often with my younger sister, Rebecca. It brought us all closer and was a lot of fun spending time together.
What advice would you like to impart to other couples planning their weddings?
Plan several moments to take throughout the day to be more mindful. Talk through specifics with your wedding coordinator and other vendors. There are details I didn't think of or chose to trust the professionals because "they do this all the time" and it wasn't what I would have chosen. Keep your guests in mind and ultimately do what you and your partner want for your day. Highly recommend doing a Sunday and or holiday weekend for your wedding. Ours was Sunday of Columbus Day weekend, and that allowed us to spend more time with family and friends from out of town throughout the entire weekend.
What were you most anxious, nervous or concerned about regarding your wedding, and what was the outcome?
Finances and inappropriate behavior of relatives with known substance abuse challenges. Talking about our concerns together and with other close family members for support. We organized plans for how to manage finances throughout the wedding planning and after and identified appropriate family members to respond to known people if they were inappropriate. People who were inappropriate were managed and redirected by others and did not act out in front of myself or Paul.
Heather: Walking down the aisle to see Paul looking at me with his glasses fogging up : ) Throughout the ceremony and taking formal pictures he kept staring at me and being extremely affectionate. I could truly see and feel how happy he was.
Paul: Seeing Heather walk down the aisle.
What is the best part (so far) about being married?
Heather: Honeymoon, feeling grown up calling Paul, my husband, and most everything else being the same!
Paul: Our relationship being the same as it was before we were married.
What was your reception like?
The ceremony and reception were located at the same place and were connected to the hotel, which allowed us and our guests to be relaxed and provide smooth transitions throughout the weekend. The food was delicious and our wedding coordinator did a great job helping us plan to make sure we got to enjoy all of the food and drinks throughout the night! One of my favorite moments was when I was sitting alone at the sweetheart table and looked up to see myself surrounded by so many important people to us from across the country and felt overwhelmed by their love and support for Paul and I. A particularly fun moment would be "skanking" and singing along with my brother, Paul, and a few other ska-loving friends and family members to 'Red Sweater' by the Aquabats.
Kara was everywhere and nowhere at the same time! She found a way to capture so many moments throughout our wedding day that we were and were not a part of and get to enjoy forever. She is knowledgeable and professional and is a great listener with her own unique perspective. She was very laid back, personable, and confident and provided limited direction to get some amazing natural portraits and photos. I would highly recommend Kara to provide photography services for any occasion, especially for their wedding!
