Meg & Anthony :: Married :: Barre Players Theater, Barre MA
Wedding Date: October 10th, 2020
How long have you two been together?
5 years pre-marriage.
If you could pick one word that describes your wedding day, what would it be?
Meg: Joyous
Anthony: Perfect-for-us
Describe your wedding day style:
DIY
Describe your wedding theme:
Purple and grey
What did your ceremony entail?
Short and sweet. Officiated by our close friend who directed us in our first show together. The groom’s cousins were supposed to play the ceremony, but after another round of COVID reductions, they agreed to record a song for the bride to walk down the aisle, “Marry Me” by Train.
We selected poems together that were read by a family member on each side.
We got married at the Barre Players Theater where we have worked together on many productions over the years and were able to design our own wedding set. Our DJ recorded the small ceremony for friends and family to watch at home.
What were you most anxious, nervous, or concerned about regarding your wedding, and what was the outcome?
We were terrified that we wouldn’t be able to have our special day as COVID restrictions kept tightening.
What was your biggest wedding planning challenge, and how did you overcome it?
COVID! Working together and exercising great patience.
What was the most memorable part of your wedding planning?
Picking the date. We were out to dinner with two members of our wedding party and came to the conclusion that we wanted to wait one more year until 2020. We texted our maid of honor and best man debating 10/10 or Halloween and they both immediately replied that 10/10/2020 seemed fitting for us.
What advice would you like to impart to other couples planning their weddings?
Your day is about the two of you. Focus on that first and foremost. Communicate what you want, be willing to compromise, and understand that things won’t go exactly according to plan. Our initial guest list of 140 was reduced to 25, but we kept our date and the day was totally “us”.
Meg: There are so many. Seeing my husband’s face as I walked down the aisle, exchanging our vows, our first dance. Oh! And the ladybugs who crashed our photos.
Anthony: Lightsaber duels at the reception. Also seeing my wife walk down the aisle.
What is the best part (so far) about being married?
Nothing has really changed. We still both grin like fools when we get to say “my husband” or “my wife”, but our dynamic is the same. We enjoyed getting to take our belated honeymoon in Maine, having a true week-long vacation together for the first time ever.
What was your reception like?
We rented an Airbnb which served as lodging and the venue for the reception, which was a backyard BBQ catered by Firefly’s. The groom’s aunt made our wedding cake, which was delicious! The bride crafted our cake topper out of clay as a quarantine project. Our DJ live-streamed the reception, featuring our first dance, speeches from our best man and maid of honor, and grace from the groom’s grandfather.
Our wedding favors included a glass we designed and some custom dice in honor of our shared gaming hobby.
Kara is an absolute joy to work with. We met with Kara on Christmas Eve 2019 to select a package and start planning. Throughout our planning, she helped us with the lighting and color scheme for the ceremony and her time estimates helped to structure our plans. Kara’s photos are incredible and she is so easy to work with. Her candid timing is impeccable and she has a great eye for detail. We are so pleased with our engagement and wedding photos and highly recommend her for your big day!
